Belong School Devon is an independent special school for students aged 11 to 17 from across Devon. Our approach to learning at Belong School Devon is built around our vision of enabling all our students to become thriving, successful adults in a modern world.
Building strategies for learning and life
Our education offer for all students combines classroom-based learning with a diverse provision of structured Learning Outside The Classroom. Using this approach, we build strategies with our students to support their academic, social and emotional development.
Working with students from across Devon
We are focused on working with young people who have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) and we are commissioned by the local authority 0-25 team.

🌊 Belong School Residential – Bude, April 2026! 🌊
We’re excited to announce that there are a few places remaining for our next school residential to Bude in April 2026! 🏖️
This is a fantastic opportunity for students in year 7 to 10 to enjoy new experiences, build confidence, and make amazing memories by the sea. 🌅
📢 Keep an eye out this week for more information coming via text and email from your young person’s KLC or directly from Natalie with all the details on how to secure a spot. An installment programme is available to spread the cost.

The Week Ahead at Belong School
Alongside their academic studies, some of our students are taking part in a fantastic range of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) opportunities this term:
🏊♀️ Swimming – Monday & Friday afternoons
🎣 LD Active (Currently fishing sessions) – Mondays
🎶 Music Lessons – Tuesdays with Gaz Music Solutions
Shallowford Farm Trips – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
🤸 PE with LD Active – Wednesday & Friday mornings
PE - Thursday mornings
🧗 Skylark Adventures – Wednesdays & Thursdays
If you’re interested in your child accessing swimming or music lessons, please speak to your child’s Key Learning Coach in the first instance.
Please look out for information via text and email from your young person’s Key Learning Coach or directly from Natalie, letting you know what students will need to bring. This is especially important with the changing weather and drop in temperature to make students as comfortable as possible.
Don’t worry if your young person isn’t involved in these opportunities just yet—there’s plenty of time, and students will have LOtC and relational sessions planned into their timetable to support their learning and wellbeing. 💚

At Belong, we’re committed to continually growing and strengthening the ways we support our students. 🌄 Belong School on Dartmoor! 🌱
Today our students had an incredible day of learning beyond the classroom:
✨ Our Skylark group scrambled and hiked across Dartmoor, building resilience, teamwork and confidence in the outdoors.
🐷 Meanwhile, at Shallowford Farm, students cared for the pigs—cleaning them out, refreshing their bedding, and experiencing the responsibility of animal care first-hand.
These activities aren’t just fun—they support wellbeing, social skills and resilience, all highlighted in the UK national curriculum and guidance for secondary schools. For many of our students with SEMH needs, experiences like this help them feel confident, improve attendance, and make school a place where they belong. 💙
We’re so proud of the effort, smiles and muddy boots today!
Please keep an eye out for the emails and messages linked to our learning outside the classroom provision as they detail the clothing the students will need for the day to keep them comfortable.

Relational Practice
Belong School Devon’s approach to learning places the development of life-long skills at the centre of a student’s education provision to enable all to become successful both at the school and in the wider world.
Our methodology combines Restorative and Trauma Informed approaches with strong relationships to support our students to manage themselves and to learn, grow and thrive.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
A relational, individualised approach to learning provides each student with a programme which will respond and flex to their specific levels of learning and identify strategies to ensure progress.
Upon entering the school, each student engages in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting, placing the student at the centre of their plan to identify strengths and interests to support areas for development.
Home involvement is crucial in ensuring a collaborative approach to our provision. The Individual Education Plans that emerge from this process are informed and underpinned by the outcomes in the student’s EHCP.
